Technical Write-Up: AutoCAD Exception in vl.crx ARX Command
Step 2: Rename or Reset vl.crx (The Nuclear Option for LISP)
This forces AutoCAD to recreate or reload a clean version of the Visual LISP engine.
- Ensure AutoCAD is fully closed.
- Navigate to your AutoCAD installation folder. Typical paths:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2024\C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2024\
- Search for the file
vl.crx. - Do not delete it. Rename it to
vl.oldorvl.bak. - Restart AutoCAD. The program will automatically generate a new
vl.crxfile from its installation cache. - Note: If AutoCAD fails to generate a new file or still crashes, you may have a deeper installation corruption (see Step 6).
Step 4: Repair/Reinstall AutoCAD
If the vl.crx file is physically corrupted: autocad exception in vl.crx arx command
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Right-click AutoCAD and select Uninstall/Change.
- Select "Repair" from the installation wizard.
- If Repair fails, perform a clean uninstall (using the Autodesk Uninstall Tool) and reinstall.
Solution C: Reset AutoCAD to Defaults
If specific configuration files (like acad.lsp in the program folder) are corrupted: Technical Write-Up: AutoCAD Exception in vl
