Important Note Before You Start

A direct, one-click "PKG to ISO" converter does not truly exist. This is because the two file types serve completely different purposes:

Therefore, "converting" means extracting the PKG and then rebuilding the extracted files into a bootable disc structure (ISO). This is only possible for PS3 PKG files (and some PS2 Classics PKGs). PS4/PS5 PKGs cannot be converted to ISO because their security and file systems are incompatible with the optical disc standard.

Why Can’t You Just “Convert” PKG to ISO?

To understand the difficulty, look inside each format:

PKG files lack the bootable disc structure, track layout, and file system that an ISO requires. Therefore, conversion involves:

  1. Decrypting and extracting the PKG (if it’s from a console).
  2. Creating a new ISO from the extracted files, optionally adding a bootloader if needed.

2. No IRD File

Building an ISO without an IRD is like building a puzzle without the box art. The result will be out-of-order sectors, causing the PS3 or emulator to crash. Never skip the IRD step.

Step 4: Rebuild Using the IRD File

How to convert PKG to ISO

This guide explains common reasons for converting a PKG (package) file to an ISO (disc image) and provides step-by-step methods for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Assumes “PKG” refers to a bundled installer or archived package (macOS .pkg, PlayStation/PSP .pkg, or other package types). Choose the section matching your PKG type.
