The Unofficial Guide to Kirikiroid2 & Patching
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
- "Failed to open archive" : The patch is named incorrectly. Rename it exactly to
patch.xp3 (case sensitive).
- Game runs, but no text: You forgot a font patch. Look for a
font.ttf file or a second patch named patch_font.xp3.
- Crashes on opening movie: The video patch failed. In KR2's settings, disable "Play movie" or set "Video decoding" to "Software mode."
- Save data corrupt: Never mix PC saves with KR2 saves. The patch changes how save states are written. Delete
savedata folder and restart.
Key changes (high level)
- Compatibility fixes for several popular PC‑98 titles that previously experienced crashes or graphical glitches.
- Improved input handling, reducing missed clicks and making touch/mouse mapping more responsive.
- Performance optimizations for lower‑end devices, lowering CPU usage and reducing battery drain.
- Bug fixes for save/load stability, screen scaling, and audio glitches during specific scenes.
- New settings: customizable default scaling, optional frame limiting, and per‑game configuration support.
Step 5: Test the Patch
Tap "Play". The game should now:
- Show clean, scaled text.
- Respond to touch taps (tap to advance, swipe for menu).
- Save games without errors.
If you see a black screen, the patch is either incompatible or you placed it incorrectly.
3. Video Playback (OGV/MPEG)
Many VNs include animated openings (OP). Kirikiroid2 cannot play certain video codecs natively. A patch can either disable the OP to prevent crashing or inject an Android-compatible video decoder.
Who benefits
- Fans of niche PC‑98 visual novels and doujin games who want reliable playback on Android.
- Players using lower‑powered phones or tablets that previously struggled with certain titles.
- Users who prefer to customize controls and per‑game settings without manual file edits.
