Legal & FCC Considerations
Before you start programming, remember:
- In the US, the FCC requires a license for business bands (except MURS or FRS). The DEP450 is not legal on FRS due to its removable antenna and high power (1-5 watts).
- You cannot legally transmit on frequencies assigned to police, fire, or cell towers.
- You must program Narrowband (12.5 kHz) bandwidth if operating on VHF/UHF business frequencies. Wideband (25 kHz) is illegal for new licenses.

Step 5: Write the Radio
- Click the Write icon (Red arrow pointing right).
- The radio will display "PROG" on its screen.
- Do not touch the cable. Do not turn off the radio. A failed write corrupts the codeplug.
