- Android apps (.apk)
- iOS apps
- Symbian (.sis) games from older Nokia smartphones
- Touch-optimized Java games with heavy 3D graphics (it has a resistive touchscreen and limited RAM)
The Asha 306 only plays Java (.jar / .jad) games designed for touchscreens or standard keypad phones. nokia asha 306 games
Where to Find Games (Since Nokia Store is closed)
The official Nokia Store for S40 was shut down in 2018. You can still find .jar files on these sites (download at your own risk, use antivirus): Important note about the Nokia Asha 306: This
- Dedicated Java game archives (search for: "Java games for Nokia S40")
- Phoneky.com – Still has a working S40/JAR section
- Mobi.org – Older archive of Java games
- Archive.org – Search for "Java mobile games pack"
Legacy and cultural impact
- Accessibility: The Asha line brought touchscreen casual gaming to cost-sensitive markets (emerging markets, budget users), expanding mobile gaming reach.
- Developer ecosystem: Java ME/S40 provided a low barrier for small developers to publish inexpensive games; a large catalog of indie and cloned games proliferated.
- Transition role: Asha phones and their games acted as a bridge from feature phones to full smartphones in many regions, familiarizing users with touch gameplay and downloadable apps.
- Preservation: Many Asha/S40 games have since become difficult to find as stores shut down and formats aged; emulation and archive efforts preserve some titles.
Installation and running games on an Asha 306 (typical workflow)
- Open the Nokia/Ovi Store app on the phone (or use operator storefront).
- Browse/search for a game; select and choose “Download” or “Buy.”
- Downloaded JAR/JAD installs automatically or places files in the “Downloads” folder; some games required restart.
- Alternatively, sideload by copying JAR/JAD to microSD or phone storage via USB, then open the file manager and tap to install.
- Run from the Games or Applications menu. Save and high scores were stored in limited local settings or small file blobs.
