Samsung Imagination Modern Font
A. "Samsung" (The Corporate Backbone)
Any font carrying this name must adhere to Samsung’s core design philosophy: Human-Centered Design.
- Characteristics: High legibility, clean geometric lines, and open apertures.
- Reference Point: The font would likely share DNA with Samsung One (their corporate sans-serif), utilizing slightly rounded corners to appear approachable rather than sterile.
4. Legibility & Readability
At large sizes (48pt+) – Outstanding. Each letter feels sculptural, almost like a logo mark. The high contrast between thick strokes and negative space makes words pop.
At small sizes (under 18pt) – Problematic. The weight causes ink traps (or pixel bleeding on low-res screens). On an AMOLED display with white text on black, you’ll see slight halation. Samsung themselves rarely use it below 24pt. Samsung Imagination Modern Font
On e-ink (Kindle) – Terrible. Avoid completely.
✅ Pros
- Instantly elevates any headline to “premium tech” tier
- Excellent for short, powerful statements (3–5 words)
- Harmonizes with Samsung’s product design (sharp yet smooth)
- Works beautifully in video and large-format print
The Birth of SamsungOne
Before 2016, Samsung used a variety of fonts (such as Samsung Gothic and Samsung Sharp). This created a fragmented user experience. A phone felt different from a TV, which felt different from a washing machine’s digital display. Samsung Imagination Modern Font A
To solve this, Samsung partnered with the world-renowned type foundry Brody Associates (led by the legendary Neville Brody). The goal was ambitious: create a single, variable font that works on a 1.2-inch smartwatch screen and a 98-inch 8K television simultaneously.
The result was SamsungOne.
1. Background and Origin
- Designer & Release: Developed in-house by Samsung’s brand/type team in collaboration with an external type studio (Samsung has periodically collaborated with foundries for corporate type systems). Released as part of Samsung’s recent typographic refresh to unify UI, marketing, and packaging.
- Purpose: Create a cohesive, modern identity typeface optimized for multilingual support (Latin, Korean Hangul, and often Arabic/Devanagari in extended systems), high on-screen legibility, and flexible use across devices and marketing channels.
4. Usage & Application
- Brand Identity: Used for headlines, key marketing messages, and sometimes product names; chosen to convey innovation, clarity, and approachability.
- User Interfaces: Optimized weights and spacing for system UI text, notifications, and on-device menus where legibility and multilingual support are essential.
- Advertising & Packaging: Scales to large-format and print; retains personality in bold display settings while remaining legible in smaller contexts.
- Limitations: As a corporate typeface, licensing may restrict third-party use; heavy display treatments or overly condensed tracking can reduce legibility.
The "Imagination" Use Case: One UI
The font truly shines in One UI (Samsung’s software overlay). Here, typography takes center stage. Unlike other OSs that rely on icons, One UI uses large, bold SamsungOne headers to guide the user.
For example, when you open the Settings app, the title isn't just a label; it is a design feature. The large, modern sans-serif type creates a sense of spaciousness. This "blank space" is not wasted—it is a canvas for the user’s imagination, reducing anxiety and making the complex smartphone feel simple. One UI uses large
