If a download fails mid-way (e.g., power loss), the ECU may be "bricked"—it will no longer communicate or control the brakes. Do not panic. WABCO includes a Bootloader Recovery Mode.
Recovery Steps:
If that fails, the ECU requires bench flashing with a JTAG programmer—send it to an authorized WABCO service center.
After the final packet, the ECU compares a cryptographic hash of the new software against the master file. If they match, the download commits. If not, the ECU rolls back to the previous version.
